B2B Tech Marketing Community Survey Results

Thank you to everyone that participated in our first survey about what the 118,000 subscribers to the B2B Technology Marketing Community are interested in from a regular newsletter. Here are the results from our survey of members’ preferences:

Sample Composition:

The composition of survey respondents gravitated toward professionals from marketing, and most were in some form of management responsibility working for startups or small businesses, with some in enterprises. The majority of respondents work in growing organizations, with most being in technology or at least services / consulting. Here are some detail statistics:

  1. 90% of the respondents were in some form of Marketing
    • 11% said they were in sales, i.e. we had a small overlap in both, sales and marketing
  2. 76% were in management:
    • 21% were at the executive level
    • And 55% in mid- or entry-level management
  3. Almost 70% said they were growing, of those 29% said they were doing so rapidly
  4. 62% hail from startups or SMBs and 24% were from large enterprises
  5. 60% were in the technology sector and 17% in services / consulting

 

Newsletter Topic Areas of Interest:

With respect to the areas of topic interest, five received more than 50% of the respondents’ votes:

  • 74% – Content / Product Marketing
  • 71% – Digital Marketing
  • 69% – Technology Trends
  • 57% – Research (i.e. customer, competitor, market)
  • 50% – Account Based Marketing

Other Newsletter Preferences:

  1. Pertaining to the number of links in the newsletter, 83% preferred between 3 to 7 links.
  2. With respect to the preferences between educational content vs. information about trends, the respondents were somewhat skewed toward receiving updates about trend vs. education:
    • 40% scored high on a preference for trend information
    • 43% were more or less balanced between trends and education
    • 17% preferred more educational content over trends
  3. Almost 80% want the newsletter to arrive weekly or semi-monthly
  4. And the strong preference was to receive the newsletter on the mornings of the first three days of the week
